Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery has been keeping fans of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World glued to their mobile devices since its release in 2018, but now the game is flexing its visuals in an all-new CG trailer.
The Portkey Games RPG is a prequel to the books, as it takes place before Harry ever gets to Hogwarts, and has been giving fans a chance to hang out with Dumbledore, Hagrid, Snape, and McGonagall while forging their own magical story. Now the game has a new flashy trailer to convert even more Muggles to its cause just in time to go “Back to Hogwarts.”
Take a look:
Highlighting magical love notes, dementors, dragons, and spiders alongside its mechanics like an extensive character creator, the trailer also slew of activities available on the grounds: stuff like fighting beasts, dancing at balls, and playing Quidditch – all with a slightly cartoonish Sims-esque style that should feel right at home to the casual RPG fan.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now on Apple and Android devices.
Next, Netflix has announced the development of a new sci-fi series as part of its Project Development Accelerator, a joint initiative between the streamer and the Canadian Film Centre. While four shows were selected for the program (which will develop series over three months to bigger, better places), only one involved fantasy, horror, or sci-fi.
The Ageless, a series from creator/writer Faisal Lutchmedial (Endlings), looks to warp a WWII supersoldier story familiar to any Captain America fans. His script involves an eldery WWII veteran who is de-aged back to his prime Nazi-beating days thanks to a mysterious experiment. Now he’s after some new fascists – and they’re also obsessed with eternal youth.
This show will be overseen by some higher-ups at Netflix as it moves from script to screen…and possibly even finds a home at the mega-streamer. “Supporting the development of Canadian creators and providing a space where they can network, learn and grow has never been more important,” said Lisa Hamilton Daly, Director, Original Series at Netflix. “We congratulate the chosen participants and look forward to working with them in the coming months.”
The Project Development Accelerator runs from September through November of this year.
Finally, the upcoming Adam Sandler film Hubie Halloween, the spooky holiday-focused film coming to Netflix from director Steven Brill, has dropped its first look.
Sandler (known for his immature comic leads and unsettling dramatic roles) looks to split the difference in the film, playing an eccentric Halloween obsessive living in Salem, Massachusetts…who finds himself embroiled in a very real murder case on Halloween. But the cast of comic scene partners (including Happy Gilmore‘s Julie Bowen) makes it seem like a lighter affair.
Take a look at the film’s first images:
The film stars Sandler, Bowen, Kevin James, Maya Rudolph, Shaquille O’Neal, Rob Schneider, Ray Liotta, June Squibb, Steve Buscemi, Michael Chiklis, and Kenan Thompson.
Hubie Halloween hits streaming ahead of the holiday on Oct. 7.
