Although its future was often in doubt season to season, Agents of SHIELD season 7 was a sure thing right from the start as ABC renewed the series for two shortened seasons shortly after the end of season five. With the introduction of another time travel storyline — this time to past — the fact that season 7 will be the show’s final run introduces interesting possibilities for coming full circle with the origins of the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization.

Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Episode 3: “Alien Commies from the Future!”
A surprise leap forward in time has stranded Enoch in 1931 and landed the team in yet another unfamiliar decade. Now, in order to stop the chronicoms from launching their newest future-dismantling plan, the agents will have to infiltrate one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s most secure bases. They won’t be able to succeed without help from a familiar face or two. (air date: June 10, 2020)
Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Episode 4: “Out of the Past”
It was just another average morning on July 22, 1955, when Agent Phil Coulson realized the importance of that day in the S.H.I.E.L.D. history books. With a chip on his shoulder and a genre-bending glitch in his system, he’d set into motion a chain of events that would hopefully preserve the timeline as we know it and ensure those pesky chronicoms get the ending they deserve. What could go wrong? (air date: June 17, 2020)
Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Episode 5: “A Trout in the Milk”
After a bumpy landing in the disco decade, the team – Daniel Sousa in tow – reunites with more than one familiar face at the S.H.I.E.L.D. hangout and discovers exactly how to dismantle the Chronicoms’ latest plan. But when they get too close for comfort, the Zephyr unexpectedly leaps forward again, this time to a date pivotal to not only the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. but to the future of Director Mack as well. (air date: June 24, 2020)
Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Episode 6: “Adapt or Die”
The stakes are higher than ever when, after blowing their cover and damaging the Zephyr in the process, the team must scramble to rescue Mack’s parents, save S.H.I.E.L.D. from a chronicom infestation, and fix the ship … all before the next time-jump. Meanwhile, Daisy and Sousa find themselves at a disadvantage against a power hungry Nathaniel Malick and his goons, and Coulson will have to do the thing he does best in order to save the future. (air date: July 1, 2020)
Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Episode 7: “The Totally Excellent Adventures of Mack and The D”
After being unexpectedly stranded in 1982, Mack retreats to his childhood home to process the death of his parents, while Deke gets to work scouting a chart-topping group of new agents. With no idea if or when the team is coming back for them, time seems to finally be on their side … at least until the killer robots show up. (air date: July 8, 2020)
Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Cast
There were some close calls and even more than one outright death in seasons five and six, but that didn’t stop Agents of SHIELD season 7 from bringing back all of the regular cast inclduing — you guessed it — Clark Gregg as a version of Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy, Ming-Na Wen as May, Henry Simmons as Mack, Iain de Caestecker as Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Yoyo, and Jeff Ward as Deke.
Although the fate of some characters was left up in the air in the season six finale, we did get confirmation from the showrunners in a post-mortem interview that Flint, played by Coy Stewart, would be returning for Agents of SHIELD season 7. There was also indications on Ming-Na Wen’s social media that Briana Venskus as Agent Piper would be alive and well in the final season.
In fact, Wen may have inadvertently revealed on her Instagram account that Agent Carter‘s Enver Gjokaj would be a part of Agents of SHIELD season 7, indicating the possibility of a crossover of sorts for the canceled spinoff. The news was later confirmed, and of course now we’ve seen Daniel Sousa in action!
